The Dolphin was started 60 years ago by the current owner's grandparents. Consequently, it has been a very "hands-on" restaurant for all three generations. You are always greeted by a friendly face who often knows your name. The Dolphin has always been a "center of Barnstable Village life". We have hosted many a local function. The Village has changed over the years and many businesses have closed or changed ownership. However, we are the only constant in a changing world.
That doesn't mean that we are behind the times... if anything we pride ourselves on our continued effort to upgrade the restaurant. Each year we close for two weeks and do some major renovations. We have remodeled the entire exterior and have a pristine New England feel. Yes, we have a white picket fence! The kitchen has been upgraded and all the equipment has been replaced within the last two years. This means a happier, safer kitchen for customer and employee alike. We have gotten excellent scores from the Board of Health for years -- a score of 95 or above. The dining room has had many facelifts as well. Our tables are dressed with white linen, fresh flowers... our glass sparkles, our wood shines, our granite bar has a nice gloss, our brass has a warm glow.
Our staff is friendly and has been, for the most part, with me for years. The kitchen staff is a loyal group of professionals who also have worked for me for years. We pride ourselves on putting out a fresh product prepared with a creative flair. We use local, high quality purveyors to supply us with a product that we trust. I still cook alongside my staff which I feel is a "key" to a positive environment. The floor staff are also a warm caring group of people who take pride in the Dolphin and in themselves. You will often be greeted by
a member of my family.
We have a full liquor license with some high quality pours, an ever changing wine list, a new tap system with six great taps, a creative and innovative menu with daily meat specials, serve a high quality coffee from Seattle's Best, and our desserts are either made in-house or by a local high quality baker.
We have been recognized for out continued effort at striving for perfection. We have received awards from the local "Chowder Festival", we have gotten "Best Seafood Restaurant" by Cape Cod Life for the last
eight years and "Best Lunch" for the last three years, recognition from the Village on our improvements to the building, our bartenders have been awarded "Best Bartender" for the Mid-Cape area. We are recognized by the travel guides and have gotten great reviews!!
